The map of São Miguel island could be easily drawn as a set of patterns which cover the main streets and plazas. Continue reading Patterns of São Miguel

My Barcelona

February 10, 2020September 24, 2020 Ioana

In most places I’ve lived across Europe, I’ve moved after a few months, two years max. But Barcelona, after almost three years since I am calling this city home – well Barcelona is still fascinating me. Continue reading My Barcelona

Mooi Amsterdam

November 14, 2019January 29, 2020 Ioana

The colder the weather outside, the warmer and more welcoming feels this bohemian city filled with great architecture, art and some of the best eateries I’ve ever tried across Europe. Continue reading Mooi Amsterdam

Bilbao. Along the River

October 16, 2018October 1, 2019 Ioana

I didn’t know exactly what to expect from Bilbao. It is much talked about – still the opinions can get divergent, sometimes even too divergent. I was expecting a cosmopolitan city with a nice modern area nothing but ugly industrial districts around… Continue reading Bilbao. Along the River

Azkuna is a nice centre to see in Bilbao. There’s coffee at Hola Bar and a cool rooftop terrace with city views and a bar (La Terraza). The exterior is from over 100 years ago and the interior is completely … Continue reading Bilbao. Azkuna Zentroa

About Travel in Patterns

Hi, I am Ioana, and I like to travel while working remotely. Sometimes I travel for short term, sometimes I stop and live in a new city for a while, getting to know new languages and local habits.

Over the years, I have called ‘home’ several cities across Europe including Lisbon, Bilbao, Amsterdam and Milan, until I fell in love in Barcelona, where I am based now. I have a twelve-years background in architecture, practicing it and writing about it, and I like to capture nice stories, patterns and colours around me. And to live by the sea.
